In This Workshop You'll Learn
How to Inoculate Logs
• Drill holes in a diamond pattern around the log.
• Use a 5/16" (8.5 mm) bit for plug spawn or a 7/16" (12 mm) bit for sawdust spawn.
• Drill holes 1" deep, spacing holes 4" apart with rows staggered 2" apart.
• Insert plug spawn with a hammer or mallet, or pack sawdust spawn using an inoculation tool.
• Seal every hole with melted wax to protect the spawn from drying out and contamination.
Incubation & Care
• Stack logs in a shady location off the ground.
• Maintain proper airflow while protecting logs from drying winds.
• Monitor moisture during extended dry periods.
Fruiting & Harvesting
• Learn when to expect your first mushrooms.
• Encourage fruiting through soaking techniques.
• Understand seasonal fruiting cycles and long-term log productivity.
